About

A bit about me

My name is Mijat Budimir Vujacic, Budimir being the name of my father. I've been a creative person for as long as I can remember, and I started writing fiction regularly when I was in high school. If you stretch the definition of writing to "typing long histories & descriptions of made up worlds and their denizens" then my writing passion goes even further back. Hell, I used to have a free website devoted to a fantasy world I created. I still regret losing that particular encyclopedia.

My love of horror, (dark) fantasy, and (the darker the better) sci-fi is another thing that's always been a part of me. As a wee lad, I watched every monster flick I could find in the local VHS rental store, with Alien and Predator being my all-time favorites. They still are.

I think the reason I enjoy horror so much is that it's the genre with most freedom. Every other type of story is limited by certain conventions and has to at least pay lip service to decency. Not horror, though. In horrorland, any premise can work. Anything can happen to anyone. Any combination of genres and subgenres is open season. Not even the sky is the limit.

I'm one of those people who have always dreamed of becoming a full-time fiction writer1, but who became an economist because, hey, a man's gotta eat... and drink... and smoke hookahs... and attend heavy metal festivals. Still, I kept writing regularly and, unless something terrible happens, will keep writing for as long as I have stories to tell.

So far, I published three books written in Serbian, and had many of my short stories published in various English-language anthologies, magazines, and webzines. I'm also a semi-regular contributor to a Serbian gaming website, EmuGlx. Plenty more is in the works.

I'm also something of an a-hole. That's a little too much info, isn't it? Oh well, here's a picture of my dog.

He’s a prick, too.

1 Technically, I could - and maybe will - become a full-time writer by focusing on my copywriter/content writer side gig, but that’s just not as cool as writing about blood for a living.
